2018 Japanese Writing Competition for Hobsons Bay Secondary Students

Hobsons Bay International Friendship Association (HBIFA) invites Hobsons Bay secondary school students from years 9 to year 12 to enter a Japanese writing competition, with a prize pool of $1,000.

The HBIFA began 30 years ago between the former City of Altona (now Hobsons Bay City Council) and our Sister City, Anjo in Japan. This writing competition was established to  increase awareness and foster relationships with our sister city.

The topic for this year’s writing competition is:

My three favourite places in Hobsons Bay are…..

The categories for the competition are:

  1. Year 12 students (unit 3-4 Japanese) to write approx. 600 characters/letters – Prize $500
  2. Year 11 students (unit 1-2 Japanese) to write approx. 500 characters/letters – Prize $300
  3. Year 9 and 10 students to write approx. 400 characters/letters – Prize $200

Entries will be judged by a panel of HBIFA members and a representative from Anjo City.

The winner of the year 12 category will have their essay read to the Mayor (Councillor Angela Altair) and the Anjo student delegation at a reception in late June 2018. Entries are to be hand written in Japanese and English.
